Uniformity, blandness, and mediocrity have become the watch words of our society; we discard the unusual, the different, the old. In many cases, our old discards hold more beauty and character than our prized new possessions. In this spirit, I use only salvaged and recycled woods-old redwood fences, stumps, and salvage logs-along with stones hand gathered in the streams and mountains of northern Cal. I let the materials determine the form of the piece, as I try to show the beauty of each component. I believe in a minimal amount of processing with handwork taking precedence over machining. In this way each piece becomes unique.
