Bio

All of my paintings start with a drawing from my sketchbook. I add realistic elements and/or add curvilinear or geometric shapes. I don't always have an idea of what the painting will look like. Sometimes it will take a different direction from what I thought the painting would evolve into. Sometimes I'll draw in another object after I've started painting or even after I thought the painting was done.

Watercolors work for me because of their transparency and the instant gratification I get. Watercolor can be vibrant or soft and they can have textures or smooth gradations of color. It's a versatile medium.

I try and have different layers of color, patterns, shapes and details. I want to show the "everything of emotions", the energy of life or my own personal moods. Nature and colors are constant inspirations. I love combining colors so they "pop". I also love seeing other artist's works. Striving to combine all these elements into my pieces with something that pleases me is one of my goals.

I grew up in San Francisco in the 60's and lived in the Bay Area in the 70's. I now live in Roseville, California. Artists that have inspired me are Peter Max, Maxfield Parrish, Alponse Mucha, Wassily Kandinsky, Yoko dHolbachie, Rex Ray and Daniel Marriem. I'm basically a self-taught artist but I'm presently a student of the watermedia artist, Patricia Abraham.
