River Rock Series
Since coming to live in Sacramento seven years ago, I have discovered how relaxing the river can be. Rafting and floating down the river has inspired me to try to capture the flow of water over river rock.
My paintings are reflections of time and seasons. The rhythm of the water over the smooth surfaces of the stones, the changing light at different times of day, and the patterns and shapes created, are a kind of meditation.
I am interested in looking closer at overlooked objects to create a sense of wonder. I try to make paint, like the river water, flow lazily across the surface of the canvas. I adhere smaller canvases upon larger ones to create another dimension that often represents time and space.
Cardboard Portrait Series
I have always been interested in assemblage and have recently started a series of cardboard portraits. Some are based on friends and acquaintances, but most are imaginary. I use ordinary cardboard boxes which I peel and tear to get the various surfaces.
