Robyn Slakey has been teaching art in private and public schools for over thirty five years. Slakey graduated from California State University, Stanislaus and holds three teaching credentials. She has studied with many well-known artists over the years and has an extensive background in watercolors, pastels, and mosaics. Most recently, she has studied with Therman Statom (2005), Felice Nittolo (2007) at Pilchuck School of Glass and Tony Natsoulas (2007 to present).
As a teacher, her students have won numerous local, state, and national awards. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1995, 1996 and has been a presenter at the California State Art Educator’s Association since 2005. She spent over 13 years with Chalk It Up to Sacramento, starting as an artist and eventually becoming Vice President of the Board of Directors, retiring from that position in 2007. Slakey is a member of the Society of American Mosaics Artists, Sacramento Fine Arts Center, and past member of California Art Educators Association (CAEA.).
Outside of art and teaching, Slakey’s main interest is her family. “A good day for me would be going to an art gallery in the morning and then having everyone home for dinner in the evening.”
Currently, Slakey works full time on her art, teaches privately out of her studio.
