Life is art and art is life. I can not separate my life and experiences from art – it is all one. My life informs my art, and my art informs my life. It is what I hope to be, what I am, what I used to be. It is the part of me that I want to share with the world, but also the part of me that is afraid to be seen.
I get inspiration for my pieces from everywhere I have been and everyone I have met. Mostly my pieces reflect my interest in how we humans fit in this world. It is about the absurdity of life as well as the profundity of life. It is about the contradictions. And it is funny. Sometimes.
Humor is an important part of my art, although not all of my work is humorous. I am not the kind of artist that can create serious, disturbing or provoking art. I need art that makes me smile or laugh. There is value in the serious and disturbing, but it is not something that I can or want to do. Call me weak of heart, but there it is. I want people to feel good when they see what I’ve made, not afraid or horrified. I also do not want to be afraid of my creations. In the end I have to make what feels right for me, and just trust that someone else will enjoy it as well.
